Authorities have arrested a 16-year-old male in connection with a fatal stabbing near Lincoln Park last week.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Jersey City teen was arrested yesterday by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit in connection with last Friday’s fatal stabbing of Naseer Munroe.

The youth has been charged as a juvenile with Murder, Possession of a Weapon for an Unlawful Purpose, and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon. He was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus.

Because juvenile matters are confidential, authorities are not releasing additional information at this time.

The killing took place shortly before 8:55 p.m. on Friday, December 15 when Jersey City police received a report of a stabbing in the area of Duncan Avenue and Wilmont Street. When they arrived, they found Munroe, 18, of Jersey City, with an apparent stab wound to the torso. Munroe was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead a short time later.

The killing was the tenth of the year in Jersey City. On Monday, Mayor Fulop called a press conference to announce the the city had achieved a “record” low number of homicides for the year. The previous low was in 2012 when there were 11 homicides.
