The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey has declined to answer questions about Saturday’s incident at the Grove Street PATH station in which a man was hit by a train.

Asked for an update and for key details today, a spokesperson for the Port Authority provided the following:

“At 2:45 pm Saturday, March 2, Port Authority Police were notified that a man was struck by a westbound train at the PATH Grove Street Station. All service to Grove Street was suspended both east and west of the station. Non-essential personnel and passengers were evacuated from the station. The investigation is ongoing. No further information is available.  NJ Transit cross-honored PATH.”

A Jersey City Times reader named Scott believes it’s time for the Port Authority to be more forthcoming.

“How has there been no further information made available since Saturday? Did a person fall on the tracks? Did they die? If so, what caused this?”

Asked Scott, “If a person was pushed, was the attacker identified and/or apprehended…if there was an accidental fall, it seems quite possible that might have resulted from the station platform being more than 50% less wide than usual due to ‘construction,’ yet there continues to be packed platforms on weekends, when the construction ostensibly occurs. The addition of crowding at Exchange Place causes a similarly perilous overcrowding.”

Facts surrounding incidents on the New York City subway appear to come out more quickly. Yesterday, The West Side Rag, reported on the details of a subway death that occurred the day before. Details of an October subway death were reported that day by NBC TV.
