A man walking along Route 440 last night was killed by a hit and run driver.
According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s office, the man, identified as Phillip Delancy, 36, of Jersey City, was hit by a vehicle at approximately 9:30 p.m. in the vicinity of 740 Route 440. The vehicle that struck Delancy left the scene.
Delancy was take to Jersey City Medical Center, where he later died. The cause and manner of death are pending an investigation by the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The events surrounding the crash are under investigation by the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No charges have been filed at this time.
