Joined by a who’s who of New Jersey Democratic politicians, Craig Guy was sworn in last night as Hudson County’s fifth County Executive.

Guy succeeds Tom DeGise, who held the post since 2002. Guy was unopposed in the November 7 election, which saw candidates endorsed by the Hudson County Democratic Organization sweep to victory in county and state races.

Guy served on the Jersey City Police Department for more than 25 years, starting as a patrolman and moving up to detective and, later, sergeant. He retired with rank of lieutenant. He served as chief of staff to DeGise since from the time DeGise took office.

“Hudson County has always been my home, and I know that together we can make it an even better place for people to live, work, start a family and pursue their dreams,” said Guy.

Mayor Steve Fulop delivered welcoming remarks and U.S. Senator Cory Booker provided a video offering his support.

“Craig has built a reputation as a results-oriented public servant focused on improving the lives of families across our state. I know he’ll continue building on his impressive track record of making Hudson County a great place to live, work, and raise a family” said Governor Phil Murphy, who administered the oath.
