Two men were wounded in a drive-by shooting tonight in Bergen-Lafayette.
According to radio reports, shots were fired from a stolen car in the vicinity of Virginia Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive at approximately 9:00 p.m.
After the shooting, the car drove west on Virginia Avenue, pursued by the police and collided with several cars between West Side Avenue and Route 440.
Police arrested three men in the car, one of whom is a juvenile. Two guns were recovered.
Two men at Virginia Avenue and Martin Luther King Drives suffered non-life-threatening wounds, one with a “through and through” wound to the left leg. The other victim suffered a “graze” wound.
Last night, a man was stabbed in the face and neck at Ocean and Winfield Avenues in Greenville.
Cities around the country have experienced a surge in violence over the last two years.
The extent of crime generally, and shootings in particular, in Jersey City is unknown. Without explanation, the Fulop administration stopped publishing monthly CompStat crime data in June of 2019.
New York City residents, by contrast, have access to fresh crime data, including shootings, from weekly CompStat reports posted on the city’s website.
