Two men were found dead this morning in a Journal Square parking garage.

According to radio reports, police responded at approximately 7:50 a.m. to the SP Parking + garage at 270 Magnolia Avenue, directly behind the Loew’s Jersey Theater.

The two men were found lifeless on the third level.

Multiple units from Jersey City Medical Center and the Jersey City Police Department responded. The garage was was immediately cordoned off.

The men, who were described as “in their 30’s,” were pronounced dead at 8:23 a.m.

Officers at the scene said they suspected that drugs were involved. One reported that one man was propped up against a wall. Another officer reported that there was no sign of blood, trauma or a “crime scene.”

Each man reportedly had a handgun in his pocket. Responding officers were not immediately able to determine whether the guns were real.

A witness came forward to say that the men were known locally as drug users.

Drugs continues to bedevil local law enforcement and the health care system. Last month, a Jersey City man was arrested with three others and charged in connection with the distribution of cocaine and fentanyl. On August 5, a man was found dead from an apparent overdose on Barrow Street Downtown.
