Spring Break starts this weekend in Jersey City, and there’s plenty of ways to celebrate. The Butterfly House at Liberty Science Center is open, Wizard Fest will be at White Eagle Hall, and The Pink Floyd Project will be at 902 Brewing Co. Plus, there’s lots of art, live music, and ways to celebrate nature. 

Butterfly House at Liberty Science Center

Liberty Science Center’s Butterfly House pop-up exhibition is now open. “Feel the magic of hundreds of painted lady and monarch butterflies fluttering around you, feeding on plants and nectar, and landing on your shoulder or finger. You’ll even meet some caterpillars, too!”

JCFPL Fun Fridays for Teens

Presented by the Miller Branch Teen Center, this event will have social activities and a variety of games for teens 13 years of age or older.  

Beyoncé Laser Show at Liberty Science Center

“Who run the world? Rock out to Queen Bey’s music like never before at the ‘Beyoncé Laser Show,’ set to stunning high-tech lasers in the country’s biggest planetarium.” This event is not recommended for children under five years of age. 

BLURRED TIME: a group installation

This “experimental installation featuring 13 artists of ART150” is opening this Friday with a Meet the Artists Reception. Works on display include everything from bronze sculpture to digital video loops and glowing rice paper. ART150 “is a collective of artists working at 150 Bay,” and “represents the fulfillment of the promise of what the Jersey City Powerhouse Arts District was originally intended to represent.”

Caili O’Doherty Quintet at The Statuary

Jersey City’s own Caili O’Doherty will be performing at The Statuary this Friday evening, “Where the line between the band and the audience ceases to exist. Jersey City’s intimate home for jazz, art, and culture.”

Acid Rain: A collection of artworks by Marisela Vanegas Alas

Electric Jungle presents “Acid Rain – a solo exhibit by Salvadoran born abstract expressionist artist Marisela Vanegas Alas,” which will be having an opening reception this Friday evening, and an Artist Talk on Saturday. “Marisela created each piece on her mobile phone using only free software and a hollow, aluminum dollar-store stylus. The signature fuscia accent colour of the collection is the result of a glitch in the software, which lagged under the maximum resolution parameters.”

Fabulous Fungi at Liberty State Park

“Come to Liberty State Park to discover the hidden world of the often overlooked fungi and learn all about these unusual organisms.” This event is not recommended for children under four years of age. Attendees must register in advance. 

Afternoon Tea with Art at IMUR Gallery

“Relax and enjoy a cup of tea with the art!” Enjoy tea with prepared food at IMUR Gallery this weekend. Attendees must be 13 years of age or older. 

Wizard Fest at White Eagle Hall

This “interactive fantasy themed party” will have a dance party, trivia, and a costume contest. Attendees must be 18 years of age or older. 

The Pink Floyd Project at 902 Brewing Co.

Celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Pink Floyd’s “The Dark Side of the Moon” at this music and light show from The Pink Floyd Project at 902 Brewing Co.

This Saturday night, Debra Devi performs at Fox & Crow. “Debra Devi blends blues-rock, jam, Americana and pop influences into a potent blend flavored with her masterful guitar playing and soulful vocals.”

Earth Temple: A Sanctuary for Ecological Grief & Love
at SMUSH Gallery

This Friday night is the Opening Reception for this installation, with an “ecological tuning” at 8 p.m. and an After Party at a secret location. It’s “an immersive installation: a non-denominational house for ecological emotion and spirituality for the Jersey City community.”
