It may be cold out there, but Jersey City is keeping busy with all sorts of events this weekend. On Saturday and Sunday, the first Jersey City Book Art Fair will be at Mana Contemporary, and Joe Bataan will be performing at White Eagle Hall on Saturday night. Plus, there’s a karaoke contest, a winter animals program at Liberty State Park, and more. 

Auditions for North River Sing Community Chorus

North River Sing Community Chorus, dedicated to jazz standards and show tunes, is holding auditions for its spring season this Sunday, Jan. 29. Auditions are super friendly and relaxed, and no prior choral experience is necessary for either auditions or membership. In this children’s dance class, Miss Mani will “demonstrate and teach the basic steps and postures of Hindi dance.”

This party will feature a karaoke contest, a dance off with a DJ, and games. 

Garden State Warriors Live at 902 Brewing Co.

902 Brewing Co. will be hosting the Garden State Warriors this Friday night for “a hip hop centric night.”

Jersey Art Book Fair

The first Jersey City Book Art Fair will be at Mana Contemporary this weekend. “Presented by Dense, JAB Fair features over 60 exhibitors, with art books, zines, posters and other print ephemera for purchase, as well as a packed program, from zine-making workshops and riso-printing demos to book signings and kids activities.”

Winter Animals at Liberty State Park

This interactive discussion will discuss animals that are native to New Jersey and the adaptations that help them through the winter months. There will also be a story and a craft to take home. This event is recommended for children between ages four and six.  

Walking the Old Boonton Line – Book Talk and Signing

“The Old Boonton Line of the Erie Railroad is the proposed route of a paved bike path that will stretch from Montclair to Jersey City. Wheeler Antabanez (Writer, Photographer, Weird NJ Correspondent) walked the rails one last time before the tracks disappear. After reaching the Hudson River Waterfront, Wheeler took to the sky in a helicopter to capture aerial photos of the New Jersey landscape he had just traversed.” On Saturday afternoon at the Jersey City Free Public Library, Wheeler Antabanez will give a presentation featuring a selection of images and a discussion of “his journey and his broader career as an explorer of NJ’s urban edges.”

White Eagle Hall Presents Joe Bataan

This Saturday night, Joe Bataan, “the originator of the New York Latin soul style that paralleled Latin boogaloo and anticipated disco,” will be performing at White Eagle Hall. Attendees must be at least 18 years of age.

Latin Jazz with Joe Taino at Green Pear Heights

Joe Taino and his Latin Jazz Band will be performing at Green Pear Heights this Saturday night as part of their Dinner Theater Series.

Justin Garcia and Friends at Fox & Crow

Head to Fox & Crow on Saturday night for live music from Justin Garcia and Friends. “Guitarist Justin Garcia combines elements of Jazz, Country, free improvisation, latin and soul to weave together a sonic world that’s both nostalgic and fresh.”

Jared Jones Trio Live at 902 Brewing Co.

This Saturday, 902 Brewing Co. will be having live music from Jared Jones (JJB) Trio, featuring “acoustic covers of your favorite alternative, indie, and classic rock tunes.”

Trailblazers Volunteer Day at Liberty State Park

Volunteers are invited to join the Liberty State Park Trailblazers this Sunday for a morning of trail maintenance at the Richard J. Sullivan Natural Area. This event is not recommended for children under 10 years of age. Attendees must register in advance.

Rock and Roll Playhouse Performs Bruce Springsteen

Rock and Roll Playhouse is “a family concert series hosted at historic music venues across the country,” and this Sunday they’ll be performing the music of Bruce Springsteen at White Eagle Hall.
