This weekend, Jersey City is offering plenty of ways to celebrate Juneteenth and Father’s Day. There’s the African Cultural Arts Family Festival and the Rock and Roll Playhouse at White Eagle Hall, plus a color walk, live comedy, a disco dance party, and more. 

 

African Cultural Arts Family Festival

In commemoration of Juneteenth and in celebration of the African Diaspora, Jersey City’s African Cultural Arts Family Festival will take place this Saturday afternoon at Berry Lane Park. There will be live performance, activities for children, and a food court.

Juneteenth Celebration with the Jersey City Free Public Library

Join the Jersey City Free Public Library for a celebration of Juneteenth this Friday afternoon. Opal Lee, who is known as the “Grandmother of Juneteenth” will read and discuss her book, “Juneteenth: A Children’s Story.”

Hudson River Color Walk in Jersey City – Surati Holi Hai

This Saturday, Surati for Performing Arts presents a Color Walk, which will start at Jersey City Hall and ends at the Surati Holi Hai Festival in Hoboken. Tickets include a t-shirt, packets of color, and entry to the Festival.

The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey by Slawomir Mrozek (Poland /USA)

Jersey City Theater Center presents a production of “The Martyrdom of Peter Ohey,” written by Polish playwright Slawomir Mrozek in 1959. This presentation is co-produced by the Trap Door Theatre and the Polish Cultural Institute New York, and it is part of JCTC’s 2022 Voices International Theater Festival, which “is dedicated to the people of Ukraine fighting for their independence.” Entry is free, and donations will go towards supporting Ukrainian artists.
