This weekend, there are all sorts of events happening all around Jersey City. From art galleries, to stand-up comedy, to evergreen trees, there’s something for everyone. Plus, there’s an LGBTQ+ Wedding Expo, live music, a laser show, and more. 

 

Closing Party/Potluck/Fun(d)raiser

Outlander Gallery is hosting one last event before closing for the winter. This party will have light refreshments and will be BYO. Attendees must wear masks and practice social distancing. All of the artwork (except for works from the solo exhibition).will be available for purchase at a 20 percent discount.

Opening Night of “Stripped” at PRIME Gallery

This Friday evening, PRIME Gallery unveils “Stripped: from physical to metaphysical,” a group exhibition that will focus primilary on collage to evoke “the relationship between the natural world and the cerebral.” It is guest-curated by Curate NJ’s Tess Hansen.

The Laugh Tour stand up comedy series, hosted by Rich Kiamco, is back with some virtual Friday evening Zoom shows. Unlike the weekly in-person shows, tickets for this event are pay-what-you-can.

The Laugh Tour Comedy Show at Dorrian’s JC

Not to be confused with the virtual Friday evening shows that were recently added, this comedy show (also hosted by Rich Kiamco) will be in-person at Dorrian’s Red Hand this Saturday evening. Attendees must show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, and masks are encouraged. Venue doors will be opened to support ventilation. There are two shows: 7 p.m. and 9 p.m.

New Jersey School Choice Fair

The New Jersey School Choice Fair will be taking place at St. Peter’s University this weekend in celebration of National School Choice Week. Prospective parents are invited to explore the schools in attendance starting at 11 a.m. on Saturday.

NJCU Men’s Wrestling Hosts “NJCU Quad”

The NJCU Gothic Knights men’s wrestling team competes against the Keystone College Giants and the Montclair State University Red Hawks this Saturday. All spectators aged 15 and up will be required to show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, and masks are required.

Jersey City Theater Center Presents “The Tent” by Megan Furniss

“The Tent” is a play written by Megan Furniss and will be performed during this Live Zoom Reading presented by Jersey City Theater Center. The piece is set in a tiny rural town somewhere in South Africa, and “concerns the ‘other’ and the phobia that it sparks.”

Twiddlin’ Thumbs at Fox & Crow

Jersey City band Twiddlin’ Thumbs will be performing at Fox & Crow this Saturday evening. Attendees must show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination. There is a $10 cover charge.

Winter Evergreen Trees

This Saturday, the Liberty State Park Nature Center hosts an evergreen “tree investigation” outdoors with the park naturalist, where attendees will learn how to identify these trees. This event is not recommended for children under 5 years of age.  Pre-registration is a requirement.
