Things may be feeling unpredictable and uneasy with the current Covid surge, but there is still plenty to do in Jersey City. Some activities now have heightened safety protocols, and others are virtual or outdoors. There’s ice skating, a nature hike, a virtual pizza class, and more. 

Ice Skating at Newport Skates

Ice skaters can now avail themselves of the rink at Newport Skates. Group and private lessons are available (see website for details).

Live Zoom Sourdough Pizza Class

Award-winning chef Dan Richer, from Jersey City’s Razza Pizza Artigianale, leads a virtual sourdough pizza class this Saturday. Attendees for this “advanced” class are advised to bring a sourdough starter and a batch of the chef’s pizza dough to the class. Included in the registration fee is an eBook copy of Richer’s New York Times best-selling book The Joy of Pizza.

The Laugh Tour Comedy Show at Dorrian’s JC

This Saturday, Rich Kiamco hosts two comedy shows at Dorrian’s Red Hand: at 7 p.m. and 9 p.m. Attendees must show proof of full Covid-19 vaccination, and masks are encouraged. The venue’s doors will be kept open for ventilation.

Winter Waterfowl Walk

The Nature Center at Liberty State Park leads a guided walk this Saturday to observe migrating winter waterfowl along the river. Attendees are encouraged to bring binoculars. This event is not recommended for children under 5 years of age. Pre-registration is required.

The 65th Anniversary of Independence Sudan Flag Raising

Presented by the Sudanese American Community of New Jersey along with the City of Jersey City, the Mayor, the Municipal Council, and the Office of Cultural Affairs, this flag raising will take place on City Hall’s balcony with attendees invited to join at City Hall Plaza. Attendees should wear a mask and practice social distancing.
