The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department have arrested a 29-year-old Jersey City man who was wanted in the death of his 60-year-old mother.
Terrance Nelson, 29, was arrested without incident at his mother’s home at 18 Virginia Avenue in Jersey City by Homicide Unit detectives and Jersey City Police Officers just after 8 a.m. today.
On Thursday, Nelson was charged with Murder, a first-degree crime.
Just before 1 a.m. on Thursday morning, members of the Jersey Police and Fire Departments responded to a report of a fire at 18 Virginia Avenue in the Bergen-Lafayette neighborhood.
On the first floor they found Jacqueline Nelson, age 60, in critical condition. She was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where, three hours later, she succumbed to her injuries.
The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
