Shots rang out tonight in Bergen-Lafayette.

At approximately 8:40 p.m., police responded to a report of shots fired in the vicinity of Forrest Street and Martin Luther King Drive. Shell casings were found at the scene and the police “cease fire” unit was called in to investigate.

Witnesses reported seeing a white car that may have been involved.

No injuries were reported. Hospitals were being monitored for possible victims.

Cities around the country have experienced a surge in gun violence over the last two years.

The extent of any increase in crime in Jersey City is unknown. The Fulop administration stopped publishing monthly CompStat data in June of 2019. No explanation was given.

New York City residents, in contrast, have access to fresh crime data, including shootings, from weekly CompStat reports posted on the city’s website.
