Shots were fired tonight in Bergen-Lafayette, continuing an upsurge in shootings around the city.

According to radio reports, three men were involved in the gunfire which took place near 394 Communipaw Avenue.

After the shooting, two of the men fled east on Communipaw Ave. Another man went south on Van Horne Street.

The cease fire unit was called in and a gun recovered.

It is unknown whether there were any injuries.

On Tuesday, three men were involved in a gunfight nearby at the corner of Communipaw and Crescent Avenues.

Cities around the country have experienced an increase in gun violence over the last two years.

The extent of any increase in crime in Jersey City is unknown. The Fulop administration stopped publishing monthly CompStat data in June of 2019. No explanation was given.

New York City residents, in contrast, have access to fresh crime data, including shootings, from weekly CompStat reports posted on the city’s website.
