A violent week continued tonight with police investigating a shooting in Greenville.

According to radio reports, a man was shot in the back at some time after 11:15 p.m. in the area of Fulton and Ocean avenues.

The shooter, a Black man with long dreadlocks and wearing a white t-shirt, black pants and white sneakers, fled with a heavyset Black female with blonde hair. He reportedly handed the gun used in the shooting to her. She was seen leaving in a white Honda with New Jersey plates.

Police reported that the victim, who was taken to Jersey City Medical Center, was hit three times in the back. He was described as “completely uncooperative” and unwilling to divulge his name. His condition was described as stable.

Tonight’s shooting continues a violent week locally that had already seen three shootings and a stabbing.

The extent of crime generally, and shootings in particular, in Jersey City is difficult to assess. Without explanation, the Fulop administration stopped publishing monthly CompStat crime data in June of 2019.

New York City and Newark residents have access to weekly crime data, including shootings, from weekly CompStat reports posted on their respective websites.
