A person was shot tonight in Bergen-Lafayette.

According to radio reports, at approximately 10:40 p.m. tonight an individual was shot in the right shoulder in the area of Jewett Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive.

The police department’s “cease-fire” unit was on the scene to investigate.

The mayor’s spokesperson did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

The shooting is the second in as many nights. Last night, a man was shot in the shoulder and arm in the vicinity of Neptune and Ocean avenues.

The extent of crime generally, and shootings in particular, in Jersey City is difficult to assess. Without explanation, the Fulop administration stopped publishing monthly CompStat crime data in June of 2019.

Jersey City does not, like New York City or Newark, provide up-to-date data on major crime categories collected by the F.B.I. such as robbery, larceny, burglary, aggravated assault, rape and auto theft.
