A shooting in Greenville this morning marks the second shooting in Jersey City in a 24-hours.
Last night, a man was shot in the neck in Bergen-Lafayette.
According to radio reports, shortly before 12 noon today, a man presented himself at Jersey City Medical Center with a gunshot wound to the lower right back. The wound was determined to be non-life threatening.
The police department’s “cease fire” unit was on the crime scene — near 120 Bidwell Avenue — and recovered one shell casing.
Cities around the country have experienced a surge in gun violence over the last two years.
The extent of crime generally, and shootings in particular, in Jersey City is unknown. The Fulop administration stopped publishing monthly CompStat data in June of 2019. No explanation was given.
New York City residents, in contrast, have access to fresh crime data, including shootings, from weekly CompStat reports posted on the city’s website.
