Authorities have arrested a Jersey City Public Schools security guard on a charge of Insurance Fraud: the second such arrest in a little over one month.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Shalonda Bullock, 34, of Jersey City, was arrested yesterday at her job by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit. She was charged with one count of Insurance Fraud for allegedly submitting fraudulent medical claims to her insurance company.

The investigation revealed Bullock submitted multiple fraudulent claims for payment to AFLAC insurance between 2019 and 2021. The policy was obtained through her employment at the Jersey City Public Schools.

Bullock was released on a summons pending her first court appearance.

Bullock is the second school security guard arrested on insurance fraud charges in a little over a month. On April 1, Suarez announced the arrest of Kaquan Vanliew, 34, of Jersey City, on one count of Insurance Fraud.

The investigation determined Vanliew submitted over 50 allegedly fraudulent medical claims to AFLAC insurance between 2018 and 2021. He received approximately $17,000 in payouts from a policy obtained through his employment at the Jersey City Public Schools.

Vanliew was released on a summons pending his first court appearance.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone with additional information is asked to call the Insurance Fraud Unit at 201-795-6000 ext. 6634.
