A Jersey City man was fatally shot yesterday in Bergen-Lafayette.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Christmas shooting took place in the area of Communipaw Avenue and Crescent Avenue.
Police were called to the scene at approximately 6:04 p.m. and found Khaliq Lockett, 46, with an apparent gunshot wound(s) to the torso.
Locket was taken to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead at 7:51 p.m. The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has yet to determine the cause and manner of death.
Last week, Mayor Fulop announced that the city was “on track for the lowest homicide rate in Jersey City since record (sic) have been kept.”
However, Lockett’s death would be the 13th homicide this year. In 2012, under Mayor Healy, there were only 11 homicides.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous here. All information will be kept confidential.
