Jersey City Theater Center will present two performances of “The Last Match: a Pro-Wrestling Rock Musical” on Monday, September 26 at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. at White Eagle Hall in downtown Jersey City. Directed by Chad Austin with book by Jeremiah James and Sylvana Joyce and music by Joyce and “The Moment,” the play is the first rock musical about professional wrestling ever to be produced.
“Just like the world of professional wrestling, The Last Match is chock full of colorful, bombastic entertainment mixing theater, rock, and live wrestling,” according to the organization’s press release. The cast includes Tony-nominated actor Ramin Karimloo and Broadway favorite (and TikTok sensation) Amber Ardolino.
“We’re honored to have one of our favorite Jersey City-based artists, Sylvana Joyce, and her team developing her new rock musical at Jersey City Theater Center with all-star Broadway cast. JCTC is providing space to local artists and arts producers who apply for a residency to develop their work at no charge,” said JCTC executive producer Olga Levina.
Levina, a theater and dance professional who immigrated to the U.S. from Belarus, founded the nonprofit Jersey City Theater Center in 2006 with her husband, real-estate developer Ben LoPiccolo. The organization produces and presents “universal yet locally relevant works” emphasizing social justice and human rights, according to press materials.
Tickets to The Last Match cost $25; White Eagle Hall is located at 337 Newark Avenue between Brunswick and Merseles Streets.
