Jersey City police have foiled a potential shootout involving at least five men in the area of Palisade Avenue near Christ Hospital.
According to reports, at 11:30 a.m., the police pursued and caught a man fleeing on foot in the vicinity of Palisade Avenue and Fleet Street. As he ran, the man was seen throwing down a gun, which was subsequently recovered. It contained an “extended clip” which contains additional bullets.
The sheriff’s department was called in with a dog to aid in the search for the gun.
A police officer working at an off-duty job was, reportedly, involved in seizing the fleeing man.
CCTV footage and witness reports indicated the possible possession of guns by three men who the police termed “armed and dangerous.” A search was underway.
Initial reports indicate that the men came from the area of Dickenson High School and were engaged in a dispute with another man or group.
