Authorities are investigating a shooting that took the life of one man and left another critically injured this morning.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, her office’s Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are investigating the shooting, which took place this morning on Monticello Avenue.
At approximately 3 a.m., the police responded to a report of shots fired in the area of Monticello Avenue and Astor Place. There, officers found two victims – a 46-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to the middle body and a 49-year-old man with an apparent gunshot wound to the upper body. Both were taken to Jersey City Medical Center.
Keshean Nettles, 46, of Jersey City, was pronounced dead at a short time later. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.
The 49-year-old man, also a Jersey City resident, remains hospitalized in critical condition.
The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
