According to a report in northjersey.com, Governor Phil Murphy will lift the state’s indoor mask mandate for vaccinated people before Memorial Day. The information came from “a  government source who was briefed on the decision said Friday.”

Murphy is expected to announce the new policy at a briefing today at 1 p.m.

The new rules will bring New Jersey into harmony with guidance from the federal Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. A CDC “Interim Public Health Recommendation” on May 13 announced that “fully vaccinated people can resume activities without wearing a mask or physically distancing, except where required by federal, state, local, tribal, or territorial laws, rules, and regulations, including local business and workplace guidance.”

Covid-19 cases in New Jersey have fallen precipitously following a mass vaccination effort. On January 7, new Covid-19 cases totaled 7,749. On Saturday, that number fell to 378.
