A Jersey City man has been arrested after allegedly filing a false claim with his auto insurer.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Issa Almaet, age 41, claimed that damage to a 2014 Jeep Cherokee occurred after an insurance policy with GEICO was purchased. Suarez alleges that Almaet knowingly concealed the fact that the damage had occurred in a collision before purchase of the policy.

Almaet was arrested yesterday by members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Insurance Fraud Unit.

Almaet is charged with one count of Insurance Fraud.

He was released pending his first court appearance in Central Judicial Processing Court which is tentatively scheduled for March 23.
