Crime Scene Tape

A man shot and killed in Bergen-Lafayette this afternoon has been identified.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, Rasheed Bostick, 32, was shot in the torso near Crescent and Belmont Avenues at approximately 12:28 p.m. and pronounced dead at Jersey City Medical Center a short time later.

According to radio transmissions, Bostick was shot in the back four to five times.

A male wearing a gold, brown or tan jacket was seen running south on Crescent Avenue from Belmont Avenue.  Four shell casings were found at the scene.

A passerby, who asked to remain anonymous, reports being close enough to hear the shots and was “terrified.”

This was Jersey City’s first homicide of the year.

Nationally, homicides have surged during the pandemic, with several cities experiencing near record increases.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
