With two children looking on, authorities arrested a 38-year-old man in his Journal Square residence early Friday morning and charged him with multiple drug-related crimes.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, members of the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Gangs Task Force arrested Robert Johnson, of Jersey City, following their execution of a court-authorized search warrant at Johnson’s residence on Van Wagenen Avenue.

The search resulted in the seizure of suspected cocaine, heroin, and drug paraphernalia. Two children were present in the home at the time the search was conducted. 

The search and arrest followed a weeks-long narcotics investigation. 

Johnson is charged with two counts of Possession with the Intent to Distribute within 1,000 Feet of a School; two counts of Possession with the Intent to Distribute within 500 Feet of Public Property; two counts of Possession with the Intent to Distribute; and two counts of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.

The elementary school, PS-23, sits at the corner of of Van Wagenen Avenue and Broadway.

Johnson was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance, which is tentatively scheduled for August 23, 2023.
