After lobbying by city and county officials, Hudson County has been included in the Major Disaster Declaration in the wake of Tropical Storm Ida. As a result, Jersey City residents and business will now have access to federal aid.
Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop had called it “absolutely crazy/shameful that Hudson County was not included” on a list of counties declared disaster areas.
Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla agreed, tweeting “Many residents & businesses suffered tremendous damage – I saw businesses that had to scramble to buy flood pumps, rip out floors, pay a contractor for repairs & suffer the loss of business.”
