On October 22, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., Jersey City Medical Center will offer free mammograms to the uninsured. Doctors recommend that every woman aged 40 and over have the series of breast x-rays annually.
“Patients who have been diagnosed with breast cancer have a higher percentage of survival if the cancer is detected early,” said Chris M. McGreevy, M.D., a breast surgical oncologist at JCMC.
To register for the service, which is being offered at the hospital’s annex for women at the Grove Street PATH Plaza (next to Walgreen’s), readers need call 201-915-2145. Only those without health insurance are eligible. Participants will automatically be entered in a drawing for a door prize.
The screening is also sponsored by divisions of the New Jersey Department of Health and the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority.
