A Jersey City man is facing a murder charge following the death of a man he allegedly assaulted at a Downtown gas station in 2022.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Nixon Marquez, 26, of Jersey City, was arrested today at the prosecutor’s Secaucus office and charged with Murder.

Marquez was previously charged with assault and weapons offenses after allegedly attacking Fardin Ghadamidarounkola, 55, of Jersey City at Shell gas station on the corner of Marin Boulevard and 14th Street Downtown in the early morning hours of August 21, 2022. Ghadamidarounkola suffered a serious head injury.

On May 13, Ghadamidarounkola died at a Washington, D.C. hospital. The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner determined the cause of death to be complications cue to blunt force trauma to the head and the manner of death to be homicide. 

Marquez was taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.Â
