A Jersey City man was arrested today in connection with a fatal North Bergen hit-and-run crash. The arrest marks the second in two days for such an incident.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit arrested 30-year-old Julian Palacios and charged him with crimes arising out of the May 5 death of Joshua Huayamave, 23, of North Bergen.

A preliminary investigation found that on the night of May 5, Palacios was operating a blue Honda Civic. Just before 9 p.m. Palacios collided with with a motorcycle ridden by Huayamave. Palacios fled from the scene.

A short time later, the North Bergen Police Department was notified of a motorcycle, with no apparent operator, lying in the road in the area of Granton Avenue and Liberty Avenue. Officers found Huayamave on 76th Street between Cottage Avenue and Tonnelle Avenue, several blocks from his motorcycle. He was taken to Palisades Medical Center where, a short time later, he was pronounced dead.

Palacios has been charged with the crimes of Knowingly Leaving the Scene of a Motor Vehicle Collision Resulting in Death and Obstruction.

Palacios was arrested in Long Branch, New Jersey, and is in custody at a local medical facility. When cleared, he will be taken to the Hudson County Correctional Facility pending his first court appearance.
