Jersey City Covid-19 Update 3/18

Emergency restrictions continue.  All restaurant establishments, with or without a liquor or limited brewery license, are limited to offering delivery and/or take out-services only.  These restrictions do not apply to grocery stores, cafeterias within nursing homes or similar facilities.

All other non-essential retail, recreational, and entertainment businesses must cease daily operations from 8:00 p.m. until 5:00 a.m.

The following establishments remain closed:

  • Movie theaters, performance centers

  • Gyms; fitness centers; barber shops; day care centers; nail salons

  • All Jersey City Free Public Library locations.

Special supermarket shopping times for seniors, the frail, people with special needs and pregnant women can be view HERE.

Free meals are being distributed to all Jersey City youth from 9 a.m. – 12 p.m. while schools are closed.  A listing of locations can be found HERE .

School parking lots will be open to the general public while schools are closed.  View the list of parking spaces from available Jersey City Public Schools that can be used by the public during this health-related school closure HERE.

Liberty State Park will remain open for passive use, but visitors centers, nature centers, restrooms and other facilities are closed.  City-owned parks, playgrounds, and recreational facilities are closed.

Mayor Fulop and Via,  announced the expansion to weekend service of Via’s on-demand publicly subsidized transit system.

A GoFundMe page has been created here for Christian Parra, age 34, of Jersey City, who was shot on Sunday night in BJ’s parking lot on Marin Boulevard and Second Street. He left a wife and three children. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip here. 

Jesus Gonzalez, 30, died in a car crash on Saturday night when the car in which he was a passenger hit the attenuator-protected guard rail on Christopher Columbus Drive near Merseles Street. The driver, also 30, was listed in critical condition at Jersey City Medical Center.

The Jersey City Education Association has started a GoFundMe campaign to support the family of 11-year-old Desire Reid and eight-month old Kenyon Robinson who died in a house fire on Martin Luther King Drive on Wednesday night. Here is the link.
