Three people were shot last night in a spasm of gun violence along Ocean Avenue.
According to a source, two shootings took place, one at Ocean Avenue and Virginia Avenue and the other at Ocean Avenue and Wegman Parkway. According to a second source, close to 50 shell casings were recovered in the shootings.
The Jersey Journal confirmed these reports, reporting that a man was shot in the foot at approximately midnight in the area of Ocean and Bidwell avenues following an argument with another man. The other man reportedly fled. It was not clear if this was the same incident as was reported at Wegman Parkway.
A short time later two men appeared at Jersey City Medical Center with gunshot wounds resulting from an apparent shooting at Ocean and Virginia avenues. One had been shot in the shoulder and the other in the chest. The appearance of the two men was also reported by RLS media.
The Journal also reported that a shooting took place early Tuesday morning near Van Wagenen and Pavonia avenues in which a 23-year-old man was shot in his lower left leg.
The Journal reported a double-stabbing early Tuesday in which one of the men was arrested.
The extent of crime generally, and shootings in particular, in Jersey City is difficult to assess. Without explanation, the Fulop administration stopped publishing monthly CompStat crime data in June of 2019.
