Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez has identified the victim in yesterday’s fatal stabbing in Greenville as Jawon Purcell, 28, of Jersey City.

At 1:53 p.m., police received a 911 call reporting a fight on Bostwick Avenue. Upon arrival, responding officers found the mortally wounded Purcell.

According to Suarez, Purcell had been stabbed multiple times. Purcell was pronounced dead at the scene — 112 Bostwick Ave. — at approximately 2:03 p.m.

According to radio reports yesterday, police are seeking a person of interest described as a black male with blond tipped dreadlocks, wearing red sneakers, blue jeans, and an acid washed black and white shirt. The man fled from the scene on a black bicycle.

The official cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office.

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this case. No arrests have been made at this time.
