Smoke enveloped the Downtown neighborhood of Van Vorst Park this afternoon as two Montgomery Street brownstones were consumed by fire.
Though the Fire Department has not yet issued an assessment, the fire appears to have begun in 234 Montgomery Street, which has been under construction. The fire then appears to have crossed over to the upper floors of 236 Montgomery Street.
The fire began at approximately 2:30 p.m. Jersey City Spanish Seventh Day Adventist Church next door appeared to be unaffected. The fourth alarm was sounded at approximately 3 p.m.
Hudson County View has reported that the fire injured four firefighters and displaced four adults and one child at 236 Montgomery Street.
