Authorities are investigating yesterday’s fatal Greenville house fire.
According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, firefighters pulled Christopher Williams, 54, of Jersey City, from the house at 269 Stegman Street during fire suppression efforts. Williams died a short time later at Jersey City Medical Center.
A 41-year-old woman was injured while escaping the fire through a window. She was treated for nonlife threatening injuries at Jersey City Medical Center and has since been released.
The Hudson County Regional Arson Task Force and the Jersey City Fire Department are investigating.
Jersey City Fire Department received the 911 call shortly before 6:50 a.m. Upon arrival, first responders encountered heavy fire in the front of the structure. They subsequently found Williams inside the house.
The preliminary investigation determined the fire originated in the front enclosed porch of of the house. However, the cause remains under investigation.
