Jersey City Municipal Council Debates Rent Freeze

With COVID-19 wreaking its fifth straight week of havoc on Jersey City, the city’s municipal council met Wednesday night to consider the first reading of an ordinance to freeze rent and ban late payment penalties on all units subject to rent control. Spurred by the pandemic, the ordinance, if passed, would remain in effect through August 1. Debate on its scope was spirited.

The Historic Harsimus and Jersey City Cemetery has secured of lovely area of the cemetery with 30 to 40 cremation niches.  The niches which are about 12″ x 16″ and can hold a large sized urn.  A small headstone can be placed on the niche and the cemetery will place a special memorial in this area to commemorate that these are victims of the Covid-19 virus pandemic.

Liberty State Park Bridge Construction Resumes

When completed, the Jersey Avenue Bridge will feature one lane for southbound drivers and one for northbound traffic and will allow park-goers to drive over the Morris Canal and onto a connecting roadway that will lead them into and out of the park. The bridge and roadway will also have bike and pedestrian lanes.
