A 33-year-old man from Bayonne has been arrested in connection with a 2022 hit-and-run crash that sent a Jersey City man to the hospital with serious injuries.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, Joseph Emmons was arrested yesterday by members of the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and charged with Endangering an Injured Victim; False Report to Law Enforcement Authorities; and Tampering With Physical Evidence.

Authorities apparently first learned of the crash on August 1, 2022 when the Jersey City Police Department was notified of a 64-year-old male patient at Jersey City Medical Center who was involved in a hit-and-run incident and suffered serious injuries.

The investigation found that the victim was riding a bicycle at approximately 12:30 a.m. on July 24, 2022 in the area of Kennedy Boulevard and Terhune Avenue in Jersey City when he was struck by a red Hyundai automobile and projected into a parked vehicle.

Emmons was arrested at the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office in Secaucus and released pending his first court appearance scheduled for September 29.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department with the investigation and arrest.
