A Jersey City man has been arrested in the stabbing death of a 46 year-old man on Friday.

Raymond Chandler, 45, of Jersey City was charged with Murder; Possession of a Weapon (knife) for an Unlawful Purpose; Unlawful Possession of a Weapon and Hindering in connection with the death of Haldy Thermitus on November 19th. Chandler was also charged with Possession of a Controlled Dangerous Substance (cocaine).

On Friday, the Jersey City Police Department responded to the area of Oxford and West Side avenues following a report of an injured male. In a vacant lot behind 562 West Side Avenue the officers found Thermitus, who had been stabbed multiple times. Thermitus was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Regional Medical Examiner’s Office has determined the cause of death to be multiple sharp force injuries and the manner of death to be homicide.

Chandler will be housed at the Hudson County Correctional Facility in Kearny pending his first appearance.

Prosecutor Suarez credited the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit and the Jersey City Police Department for the investigation and arrest.
