Anthony “Tony” Hicks, 74, of Jersey City; formerly of Tasmania, Australia; entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, November 7, 2023.
Tony was a musician since the age of 9 playing with the Latrobe Federal Band of Tasmania (a family tradition), he became the Australian Jr. Champion of Champions at the age of 16. He specialized in brass music, after moving to the USA he joined the Gramercy Brass Orchestra with whom he played with at Lincoln Center and also, backed Dave Brubeck, and recorded a CD with Dave’s son. Tony became a Brass Music Consultant with the Jersey City Public Schools for 10 years. At the same time he worked on getting his BA degree in Music from Thomas Edison College. He finished his career at the Performing Arts High School in Jersey City.
As a young man Tony was an avid athlete, and enjoyed cricket, Australian rules football, and pool “snooker.” He loved his beer, and spending time with his wife and friends making wonderful memories. Tony had an amazing sense of humor and always made people laugh. He loved traveling the world with his wife.
Anthony is the beloved husband of Sharon Sinton; cherished son of the late, Trevor and Hellen “Nelly” Hicks; treasured brother of Ted Hicks and his wife, Laureen; adored father of Anita Young and Christopher Hicks; a beloved grandfather of Jessica, Braydon, Cooper and Lucy Young a great- grandfather or Elijah “Eli” and River; caring uncle of Leah, Trudy, and Kellie; He is also survived by many loving family members and friends.Â
Visitation is Wednesday, November 15, 2023 from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM at Riotto Funeral Home & Cremation Company, 3205 Kennedy Blvd. Jersey City. Funeral is Thursday, November 16, 2023 at the funeral home from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM. Cremation will be private.
