A 41 year-old man was shot and killed early this morning on Martin Luther King Drive.

According to the Hudson County Prosecutor, shortly after 4:00 a.m. police responded to the area of Grant Avenue and Martin Luther King Drive after hearing gunshots. Upon arrival they found a man, later identified as Ishamell McCany, age 41, of Jersey City, with a gunshot wound to the torso.

A source told The Jersey City Times that the shooting arose out of a “street fight.”

McCany was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center where he was pronounced dead. The cause and manner of death are pending the findings of the Regional Medical Examiner’s Office. 

The Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office Homicide Unit is actively investigating this case with assistance from the Jersey City Police Department. No arrests have been made at this time.
