Bicycle handlebars

Another cyclist has been the victim of a hit-and-run collision.

According to Hudson County Prosecutor Esther Suarez, the Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit is investigating a July 24 collision in which a 63-year-old man was struck from behind by an automobile.

The cyclist was riding his bicycle southbound on John F. Kennedy Boulevard near Terhune Avenue at 12:30 a.m. when he was hit.  The unknown, possibly maroon colored, sedan continued driving southbound without stopping, hitting another car in the process.

The cyclist was taken by Emergency Medical Services to Jersey City Medical Center with multiple injuries that were initially thought to be non-life threatening. Those injuries have now been classified as life-threatening.

The Hudson County Regional Collision Investigation Unit and the Jersey City Police Department are actively investigating this incident. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Office of the Hudson County Prosecutor at 201-915-1345 or to leave an anonymous tip here. All information will be kept confidential.

Two weeks ago, Councilwoman-at-large Amy DeGise’s collision with a bicyclist at the intersection of Martin Luther King Boulevard and Forrest Street was captured on CCTV. DeGise was seen driving away and subsequently received summonses for leaving the scene of an accident and failing to report an accident. The case has garnered widespread media attention and calls for her resignation.
