Your Move: New Jersey’s Modern Dance Festival will be showcasing the art of modern dance for four days in one of Jersey City’s most historic theatres.
For its 10th annual festival, Your Move will be presented in The Landmark Loew’s Jersey Theatre from November 13 through 17. The festival is sponsored by The KRE group, Harwood Properties, and Point Capital Development.
The Loew’s is known for its ornate design and cavernous size and feel. In an effort to take advantage of the venue, many of the choreographers are making their works interactive. Audience members should not be surprised if, for instance, they see performers dancing on the balcony of the lobby as they file in.
“Sometimes there are boundaries pushing performances that beg the question, ‘Is this a dance?’ and we aren’t here to answer that question,” says Your Move co-founder and curator Morgan Refakis. “Your Move is here to celebrate the diversity of dance as a medium of art and expression.”
The award winning annual modern dance festival was developed by Art House Productions to bring innovative choreographers center stage to highlight their talents. Not only has Your Move been awarded the 2016 Jete Award, but the festival’s impressive list of accomplishments includes having presented 175 companies across 12 states and three continents.
Your Move’s choreographers include Claire Porter, 78 Moves, Chaery Moon, Dalit Agronin, Elena Notkina, Hyunsang Cho, Katelyn Halpern & Dancers, Kristi Cole, mignolo dance, Morgaine De Leonardis, Oluwadamilare (Dare) Ayorinde, Paul Pinto, Ross Daniel Dance, and Sophia Zukoski. Admissions is $25 at the door and $18 in advance. Tickets can be purchased at Art House Productions.
